Architect Franklin Azzi unveils his plan to refurbish the Grande Arche de La Défense
THE REBIRTH OF AN ICONIC BUILDING
Three decades after its inauguration by François Mitterrand, Franklin Azzi Architecture is writing a new chapter in the history of the Grande Arche de La Défense. Guided by the need to update a building that had become obsolete in its operation, the project aims to enhance this emblematic architectural heritage of the 20th century. Franklin Azzi's approach reveals the original architecture, accompanies the building's mutation and anticipates its future evolution: an emblematic act for this generation of architects, fully aware of the environmental challenges they face.
With this refurbishment and interior architecture project, Franklin Azzi gives the Grande Arche an active base open onto La Défense, inventing a place and programs to match its image, and putting the emphasis back on users. The agency carried out a major re-qualification of the interior spaces, which now offer new services and living spaces - auditorium, restaurant, concierge, fitness center, urban logistics and bicycle garage.
