SECTO DESIGN

Secto Design unveils its new lamp: the Kumulo suspension!

The Finnish family business specializing in handcrafted lamps made from local birch wood is proud to announce the launch of its latest creation: the Kumulo lamp.

This new suspension lamp, with its captivating curves inspired by Finnish nature, embodies the very essence of Nordic design, combining simplicity, functionality and natural beauty, with a touch of originality thanks to its undulations, a design never seen before at Secto Design. Discover the first visuals and how designer and architect Seppo Koho imagined and conceived this new luminaire with its organic curves.

The Kumulo suspension lamp has been designed to bring a touch of elegance and warmth to interior spaces. Its unique, sleek design, characteristic of Secto Design creations, makes this lamp an ideal centerpiece for lovers of contemporary design. This new luminaire can be used individually or in combination to create fascinating installations in private and public interiors.

As with all Secto Design luminaires, the Kumulo lamp is made from high-quality PEFC-certified birch wood, guaranteeing not only exceptional durability but also responsible management of forest resources. Sustainability being one of Secto Design's core values, the brand introduces new models only after careful consideration, in order to imagine the perfect alliance between sustainable materials and timeless design. The Kumulo suspension was therefore studied at length before its launch, which marks an important milestone for the Finnish company, since it is the 30th model in its lighting collection since 1999.

DESIGN BY SEPPO KOHO

The inspiration

The idea for the Kumulo suspension lamp's undulating form was born in designer Seppo Koho's mind during a trip to snowy Lapland, and later materialized under a summer sky filled with puffy clouds. The design is inspired by floating clouds and organic formations, bringing a touch of serenity and lightness to interiors. Its open design allows optimal light diffusion, creating a play of light and shadow that visually enriches the space. The suspension attracts attention with its large size, yet is light and airy with its double curve.

"On a nature trip to Lapland, I pondered the possibility of using shapes from snow-capped trees for a new design. This idea contributed to the structure of the Kumulo suspension, but it was the softness of summer clouds that inspired me even more in the work." Seppo Koho

The conception

All Secto Design lamps are created by award-winning architect Seppo Koho and share the same unique visual language, an expression of pure Finnish design, but no previous model has been as polymorphous and difficult to design as the new Kumulo lamp. The designer always produces the prototypes of his own lamps himself in his workshop, but the transition from design to production is always time-consuming and may require the development of new tools, as was the case with this new model. Seppo emphasizes that luminaires must always be designed for two situations: when they are switched on and when they are switched off. The luminaire must be an interesting part of the room, even when the lights are off.

"With a clean, minimalist design, the craftsmanship has to be meticulous and extremely careful, because even the smallest details will be visible. The entire manufacturing process must be carried out in a precise order and on time." Seppo Koho
